BabyNet is South Carolina’s early intervention program designed for infants and toddlers, from birth to age three, who may have developmental delays or medical conditions linked to delays.
The first three years of life are crucial for every child’s development. During this time, the way they grow, learn, and engage with the world can shape their future success in school and adulthood. If you have concerns about your child’s development—whether it’s with talking, thinking, hearing, seeing, playing, or moving—early support can make all the difference.
What is BabyNet?
BabyNet is South Carolina’s early intervention program designed for infants and toddlers, from birth to age three, who may have developmental delays or medical conditions linked to delays. Through BabyNet, families receive the resources and support needed to help their children thrive—and the best part? It’s provided at no cost to families.
BabyNet creates personalized care plans tailored to your child’s unique needs and your family’s goals. Services may include:
- Therapy (physical, occupational, or speech)
- Assistive technology
- Activities at home to empower parents and caregivers in supporting their child’s development
Is BabyNet Right for Your Child?
If your baby or toddler is experiencing delays in:
- Walking or movement
- Growth (height and weight)
- Language development (listening, talking)
- Social skills (getting along with others)
- Independent activities
BabyNet may be the right fit! Every family, regardless of income, can access services if their child meets the eligibility criteria. To learn more or get started, contact your local BabyNet office.
Support for High-Risk Infants
BabyNet and the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) also offer services for infants with genetic, medical, or environmental factors that place them at higher risk of developmental delays. If a diagnosis isn’t clear by age three, the child can still receive service coordination and early intervention support.
How Families and Experts Work Together
The Role of Families
Families play a key role in their child’s growth. As parents or caregivers, you can:
- Share your priorities, concerns, and goals with your intervention team
- Set development milestones that align with your family’s values
- Use strategies provided by the team to support your child’s learning during daily routines
The Role of Intervention Teams
BabyNet’s interventionists collaborate with families to:
- Create learning experiences rooted in your child’s interests
- Help your child participate in everyday family and community activities
- Provide specialized support so parents can meet developmental goals
- Connect families with resources and answer tough questions along the way
Why Early Intervention Matters
- Learning Happens Through Everyday Moments: Infants and toddlers learn best by engaging with familiar people in familiar places.
- Families Can Make a Difference: With the right support, every family can nurture their child’s development.
- Individualized Support Plans: Services are customized to fit your child’s strengths, needs, and your family’s goals.
- Evidence-Based Interventions: Our practices are guided by the latest research and best standards in early childhood development.
