Creating Employment Opportunities for Youth in Indiana County!
At the beginning of April, Kaitlyn Myers and Lindsey Jones had a zoom meeting with the owners of McNaughton Moving and Storage Co., Luke and Thom Shively in Indiana who is passionate about helping older youth in foster care. He offered many ideas on how his business could assist JusticeWorks in providing employment to our Independent Living (IL) youth. Since this meeting, 4 months ago, 7 of our youths obtained employment with him! Last week, one of our youths shared a letter he received from one of his customers, giving him positive feedback. This letter praised the youth, stating that he...
Happy 21st!
Tomorrow, JusticeWorks turns 21!! While the bars remain closed, I’m sure it will find a healthy way to celebrate! I can’t think of a better way of celebrating than giving each of you birthday presents… on Monday, they will start arriving at offices. Enjoy, and use them with pride and good health. Many of you have heard my JusticeWorks’ birth story (Jeff Ralph is already groaning!) and it is true that I started the company with an idea and $300. More than 50% of new companies fail within two years. And, fewer than 10% of companies get to be the size we are today. Of course, I’m proud...

Spotlight: JWYC Independent Living Program
I’ve been hearing some impressive feedback about our JusticeWorks Independent Living Program (IL) and wanted to find out what all the buzz is about! Therefore, I interviewed a few of our IL staff members on what makes the JusticeWorks IL Program unique. Let’s begin with what IL is. The IL program is designed to help transitional age youth (14-21), who have been in out-of-home care and are involved in the child welfare or the Juvenile Justice system. These children have had a disruption in their upbringing. Our staff understand the delicate balance between holding youth accountable for...
Juneteenth- Freedom Day!
An email sent to staff by our Founder, Dan Heit: Good afternoon everyone, As I hope you know, tomorrow marks the Juneteenth holiday, which commemorates the final State (Texas) to receive word and acknowledge the Emancipation Proclamation, abolishing slavery and freeing all slaves. It is a bittersweet irony that it took two and a half years , and the conclusion of the Civil War for that important step for ‘freedom and liberty for all’ to become the law of the entire nation. Just as it is tragically bittersweet, that 157 years after the Emancipation Proclamation our country has not...
