Our youth were exposed to a safe place where they could participate in positive and healthy activities. They demonstrated prosocial skills while interacting with peers and authority figures at the Y. We also had some fun and played basketball in their gym. The games were competitive, fun, and...

Jefferson County PA: Eric Rays Labor of Love

JusticeWorks FRS responding to President & CEO Dan Heit's Labor Day Address to the Company. Thank you very much for your heart and leadership.  I recently had the privilege to work with a young teen who recently attempted suicide that came into our care.   The young man survived his attempt at suicide after jumping off a 150-foot bridge.  It is miraculous that he even survived. Spotlight On Staff: Mike Battista, FRS, Berks County, PA

What makes JW special? Our people! Mike grew up in Reading, PA – and had seen second-hand the impact that violence has on families. That sparked an interest in juvenile justice. He enrolled at Penn State University's Capitol campus, earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a Master's in Applied Psych. His belief was that working with the 8-21 year-old population would help to prevent them from becoming a part of the correctional system as adults. After graduating, Mike worked as a TSS and mobile therapist for a youth detention center in Steelton, PA. He returned to Reading to work...
