Tyrese was 17 year old male placed in Abraxas Leadership Program due to involvement in drugs and alcohol, gang activity, truancy and habitually running away. His family contacted CYS asking for assistance. JWYC became involved when client was already almost three months in placement.
Upon start of services client already started to make positive changes while in placement. Client became interested in reading books, had future aspirations, and denounced drug use. Client was a bright child who was excelling in the program. This worker met with client weekly and discussed his progress along with his counselor. Client showed great insight into his past drug use and appeared to be ready to be released. This worker insisted client be given a home pass for Christmas to determine the possibility of an early release. Client obeyed all rules on the home pass.
Preparations for clients release was made with his family, his prior OP counselor and alternative schooling. Client was released prior to his six month scheduled release and continued to attend school daily, attend his counseling weekly and strayed from drug use and delinquent behaviors at home. Upon his return home client’s girlfriend gave birth to healthy baby daughter. This worker assisted client in preparing for a newborn baby by researching parenting tips, helping him shop for baby supplies and utilizing Safe Kids resources.
This worker visited client at school approximately two times a week and kept in regular contact with his counselors and teachers. Client was transported to his OP counseling. Client spent most Saturday’s with this worker looking for employment opportunities to support his family. CYS eventually closed the case with client as he turned 18 years old.
