On July 12, 2024, a truly remarkable event organized by JusticeWorks YouthCare Independent Living Program in Butler County, PA occurred. The Butler Regional Airport recently hosted a tour for the youth from JusticeWorks’ Independent Living Program, and the feedback has been phenomenal.

The event was highlighted in an email from Kim Geyer, Butler County Commissioner, who shared her enthusiasm about the tour with Charlie Johns, CYS Administrator. Commissioner Geyer praised the young people, noting their engagement, curiosity, and the inspiration they drew from meeting aircraft and helicopter nurses, as well as female mechanics. Commissioner Geyer mentioned “. One of the young ladies wanted to be a helicopter nurse and was asking how to begin her pathway, and another asked about mechanic positions and how to get jobs.  Most did not ever have the opportunity to get up close and visit an airport. Lots of lightbulbs going off!”

Charlie Johns expressed his delight over the positive feedback. He highlighted the Independent Living Program’s creative efforts in exposing youth to diverse and enriching experiences. Charlie underscored the value and impact of such initiatives, emphasizing how they help the youth gain employment and build bright futures.

Steven Snow, Director of Butler County mentioned “I’m blessed to be working with such a talented and dedicated team, that takes ownership in providing such meaningful opportunity for our young people in our own backyard. Our team values creative experiences that mirror the life goals of our youth.”

Dan Heit, President and CEO of JusticeWorks YouthCare, delivered a heartfelt message praising Steve’s leadership and the dedication of the Independent Living team: “Steve, your leadership and the creative dedication of our IL team is breathtaking. And heartwarming!” His words reflected the deep appreciation and warmth felt throughout the organization for the event’s success.

As we reflect on this inspiring tour at the Butler Regional Airport, we are reminded of the importance of such initiatives in young people’s lives. The event provided a unique educational opportunity and ignited the youth’s dreams and aspirations. We look forward to sharing more stories of success and inspiration as we continue our mission at JusticeWorks YouthCare.
