When Tenisha Burke first met with the family, the mother was paranoid, had trust issues, and had a negative outlook on life. The children were very shy and did not speak to Tenisha unless the mother directed them to do so. It was difficult for Mom to adhere to her prescribed mental health treatment, but Tenisha helped her to recognize and prevent triggers that would contribute to a decline in her overall mental health. In addition, Mom struggled with memory loss and often forgot to take her medication, attend appointments, and pick up her children from school or other activities. Tenisha helped Mom to create electronic alarms and calendars on her cell phone that would remind her to take her medication, pick up the children, attend appointments, etc. As a result, Mom was no longer late, nor did she miss any scheduled mental health appointments for her or the children.
Housing was another concern for the family because of high levels of lead in the home.
Tenisha helped this family to thrive, find new housing, stay together, and gain access to valuable resources for support.
Tenisha supported Mom and the children in progressing toward having a positive outlook on life, developing healthy socialization skills, and providing a safe environment that helped produce independent living skills for the entire family unit.
We thank Tenisha for all her hard work and her “Whatever it Takes” attitude. JusticeWorks is proud to have made such a significant impact on this family.
